As the lockdown restrictions ease in different parts of the world, it is important to remember that we are not in the clear as yet. The call of the hour still remains social distancing and following the dos and don’ts defined by the higher-ups – this is the responsibility of all of us. Continue maintaining a distance of at least 6 feet from other people, do not gather in groups, and stay out of crowded places and mass gatherings.
Here is a list of items we recommend you carry with you at all times while stepping out. Together, we shall overcome. And soon, we hope to see you on the other side.
The first item on our list goes without saying. We’re months away from arriving at a fully tested vaccine for Covid-19. And every authority on the planet stresses upon the importance of wearing face masks to prevent the spread of the virus. Thankfully for us, we don’t just have to rely on medical masks anymore – many local manufacturers are producing well designed, comfortable, and even stylish masks of all shapes and sizes, compliant with the necessary requirements. Remember, wearing a mask not only keeps you safe, but the people close to you as well. Be careful not to touch your eyes, nose, or mouth while removing your mask and wash your hands immediately when you do. The University of Utah recommends that cloth masks be soaked in 160°F water with soap or detergent for at least five minutes when washed.
It is prudent to carry a mini bottle of hand sanitizer wherever you go. Apart from individual bottles at your desk at work, your car, and your home, be sure to pack one in your daily bag – and do not forget to use it. Also know that medical experts suggest sanitizers with an alcohol content of more than 70% for ideal results. However, remember that alcohol doesn’t replace washing your hands with soap and water. This should be your primary mode of disinfecting your hands and face. Try and use your sanitizer only when soap isn’t available.
Hydration has always been the key. Even more so in the current times. As we all observe social distancing together, avoid any and all instances of sharing objects. Sharing water from a bottle may seem innocuous. But this is highly discouraged – especially in common spaces. Carry your own bottle to work or any engagement outside your home. This will ensure your contact with unknown surfaces remains minimal and you remain protected.
While our restaurants and bars slowly open up, they still aren’t absolutely safe. Invest in a good set of portable cutlery. Most sets come with a fork, spoon, and even a straw if feel like drinking a roadside tender coconut drink every once in a while. Moreover, these kits are also good for the environment as they prevent the unnecessary use of plastics. It goes without saying that we all need to lead more conscious lives once all this plays out, and this might be a good habit to carry into the future as well.
